The NBA has fired their coach for failing to lead.
The New Orleans Pelicans failed to qualify for the 2020 playoffs with a 30-42 regular-season record.
The New Orleans Pelicans fired head coach Alvin Gentry on Saturday after failing to make the NBA playoffs in 2020.
“Alvin Gentry has been relieved of his head coaching duties,” the Pelicans tweeted.
Gayle Benson, the owner of the Western Conference franchise, stated that a change is now “necessary” for the Pelicans because fans require a head coach capable of leading the team to championships.
“I want to thank Alvin for his contributions to the Pelicans and the New Orleans community,” Benson said in a statement.
She also thanked Gentry for his efforts and wished him luck in the future.
Gentry became the Pelicans’ head coach in 2015.
Gentry led the Pelicans to the 2018 playoffs during his five-year tenure in New Orleans, but they failed to qualify for the 2020 playoffs with a 30-42 win-loss record in the regular season.
Boylen is fired by the Bulls.
The Chicago Bulls fired head coach Jim Boylen on Friday.
“Chicago Bulls Executive Vice President – Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas announced today that Jim Boylen has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” the Eastern Conference team announced.
Boylen, the Bulls’ associate head coach in the 2015-16 season, was named head coach in 2018.
The Bulls were unable to advance to the Orlando Bubble, where the remainder of the 2019-20 season – including the playoffs – is set to be played amid the coronavirus pandemic.
They won 22 games but lost 43 in the regular season to be eliminated.
