Oregon Ducks Set to Secure 4-Star Linebacker: Commitment Announcement Coming Soon

McKay Madsen, a four-star linebacker from Clovis, California, in the 2025 recruiting class, visited Oregon on November 30. He is set to announce his decision between the Ducks, UCLA Bruins, and BYU Cougars on Saturday, January 11, during halftime of the Navy All-American Bowl.

Madsen, one of the top uncommitted prospects in the 2025 cycle, is weighing his options between Oregon, UCLA, and BYU. Just a year ago, Madsen had not received any Division I offers.

The impact of recent commitments from fellow 2025 four-star linebackers Gavin Nix and Nasir Wyatt on Madsen’s decision remains uncertain.

During his visit to Eugene for Oregon’s 49-21 win over Washington on Senior Night, Madsen saw firsthand the excitement around the program. Throughout his high school career, Madsen played a variety of positions, including quarterback, fullback, wide receiver, and punt returner. In his senior season at Clovis North, he accumulated 1,483 all-purpose yards, scoring 19 rushing touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns, and one passing touchdown.

Meanwhile, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning received news that senior linebacker Bryce Boettcher, a walk-on baseball player with the Ducks, will return for an additional football season. Boettcher has four years of baseball experience but only three in football, allowing him to play one more season with the Ducks.

Sophomore outside linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei, who had a standout season with 38 tackles, 10.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one pass deflection, and one interception, is poised for a breakout year in 2025.
