Former LSU star Justin Jefferson signs historic contract extension
The Minnesota Vikings retain the superstar wide receiver after agreeing to a four year deal worth $140 million with $110 million guaranteed
Justin Jefferson has a lot to celebrate today. He will become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history after inking his new $140 million deal.
Jefferson posted the big news on his Instagram this morning, “Something that was once a dream is now my reality. There are so many people that I can sit and thank but you all know who you are that helped me along the way. But we ain’t stopping here. There’s more to be done. SKOL!!!”
Jefferson was drafted at #22 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. In his time at LSU, he teamed up with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase to form one of the strongest offenses in college football history. In his junior year, he had 1,540 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns and had a part in LSU winning the 2019 National Championship.
In his 3 year NFL career, Jefferson has had 268 receptions for 3,717 yards and 29 touchdowns.
He is also the first player in NFL history to have 1,400 receiving yards in each of his three seasons.
Joe Burrow is also the highest-paid player of his position in NFL history. Their LSU teammate Ja’Marr Chase is set to ink a deal that will be equal to or more than Jefferson’s with the Cincinnati Bengals later this year.
“Justin has consistently proven to be one of the best players in the NFL on and off the field and we are excited about having him as a cornerstone of our team for a long time to come,” General Manager Adofo-Mensah said in a statement distributed by the Vikings. “He is the living embodiment of our culture with his joyful dedication to process and our goals.”
