The 2023 Eden Women’s Masters is won by Mary Talbot-Deegan.
In a thrilling match on Sunday, Mary Talbot-Deegan
defeated Jamie Hunter 4-3 in the Eden Women’s Masters.
With a strong performance over the course of the weekend at Frames Sports Bar in London, the 43-year-old won her first title on the World Women’s Snooker Tour.
In the opening stages of the competition, Talbot-Deegan emerged victorious from all three of her round-robin matches.
The Englishwoman lost her first frame of the competition but overcame it to win 3-1 against Sophie Nix as the knockout stages got underway.
She advanced to the final as Tessa Davidson and Sarah Dunn suffered whitewash losses.
The first four frames of the title decider were shared by both teams, and there wasn’t much separating them.
Hunter, the US Women’s Open and Australian Women’s Open champion from the previous season, then took a 3-2 lead.
However, Talbot-Deegan was granted a respite in the sixth round due to a missed pink, which she dutifully took to force the decisive frame.
In the last exchanges, both players had chances to seal the deal, but Talbot-Deegan ultimately showed bravery by potting the winning pink.
According to the World Women’s Snooker Tour, Mary Talbot-Deegan commented following the match, “I am buzzing, it feels amazing.”
I never imagined that I would win a title, but right now I feel like the world is on top of me. I’ve worked pretty hard at it and am having a great time.

Although Talbot-Deegan deserves all the praise, there have been concerns expressed about the event’s schedule.
The reigning Eden Women’s Masters champion, Mink Nutcharut, was forced to withdraw after making it to the UK Championship’s second qualifying round.
Following her defeat in her UK qualifying match in Leicester late on Saturday night, Reanne Evans also withdrew.
Top female players Ng On Yee and Bai Yulu, meanwhile, have chosen to compete in the present IBSF World Championship in Doha.
It didn’t seem good to have so many big names missing from what is supposed to be one of the most prestigious events on the World Women’s Snooker Tour.
