The Green Bay Packers’ expectations for the 2024 season have increased as a result of how the 2023 season ended.
After starting the season with a 3–6 record, they won six of their next eight games. They nearly defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs, and they also shocked the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round.
They seem to have a talented offensive line, but their defense raises some minor red flags.
On Thursday, they made the announcement on their official Twitter account that they had signed defensive lineman Keonte Schad.
Schad started his collegiate football career at Ellsworth Community College before moving to the University of Minnesota and Oregon State Universities.
While at Oregon State, he earned an honorable mention as an as an All-Pac-12 player.
After going undrafted in 2022 and joining the New Orleans Breakers of the now-defunct United States Football League (USFL), he was second in the league in 2023 with 7.5 sacks.
In 2024, Schad signed with the Houston Roughnecks of the United Football League (UFL), where he had 19 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and one tackle for loss.
Green Bay struggled to stop the run and gave up the 28th-most rushing yards allowed in the playoff loss to the 49ers last season. As a result, Christian McCaffrey had an explosive second half, gaining 98 running yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Their young, talented wide receivers and quarterback, Jordan Love, may not be enough to live up to the enormous expectations surrounding them. It’s likely that their defense will also need to continue to advance.
