The worst coaching tenures in NFL history. Is the coach that Mike…

As franchises compile wish lists for their next hiring, there are countless cautionary tales to consider. Here are the top 25 worst head coaching tenures since the 1970 merger.

..The Cowboys had worse teams in the late 1980s, but by the early 2000s, America’s Team had settled into mediocrity. Jerry Jones promoted Campo, his former Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator, in 2000. Dallas, a playoff team under Chan Gailey in 1998 and 1999, went 5-11 in three straight seasons under Campo from 2000 to 2002.

In Campo’s defence, Dallas experienced quarterback instability following Troy Aikman’s retirement in 2001 and traded two first-round picks for wideout Joey Galloway. However, Campo’s work on “Hard Knocks” instilled less confidence than that of almost any other coach in series history. And Bill Parcells led the 2003 Cowboys, who had identical quarterback concerns, to the playoffs.

Because the pre-Jim Mora Saints require a presence here, North have

The pick is to be at the controls and produce three bottom-tier offences. North, an offensive-minded coach, was 11-23 in his two-plus seasons with the Saints. Manning, the second-best quarterback in Saints history, concluded 1975 with a 7-20 TD-INT ratio. Under North, who was sacked after a 1-6 start to the 1975 season, the Saints’ offence never ranked higher than 24th. To be fair, any one of the worthy of consideration.

Svare became the Chargers’ general manager in 1971, nearly ten years after the Rams hired him as one of the youngest head coaches in NFL history. He surrendered probably the best player in Chargers history (wideout Lance Alworth) for a little return, but quickly took over as head coach from Sid Gillman, the best coach in Bolts history. Svare finished 7-17-2, but made some unusual choices, such as trading 32-year-old quarterback John Hadl to the Rams in 1973. That October, Hadl received All-Pro honours. Svare resigned as Chargers head coach in the middle of the 1973 season, but he remained as general manager until 1976. A strange time for the franchise.

Reich, who had just worked for the extremely involved Jim Irsay, took a second attempt at something similar. While Irsay has a lifetime of experience in football, David Tepper has the potential to be a destructive force. Tepper sacked Reich 11 games into a four-year contract, firing a coach during the season for the second straight year (after Matt Rhule). Reich scored 1-10. Compounding the debacle

Tepper sacked Reich 11 games into his four-year contract, firing a coach in the middle of the season for the second year in a row. Reich went from 1 to 10. To make matters worse, Tepper is widely believed to have pushed for Bryce Young, who the Panthers chose over C.J. Stroud. Reich was said to like Stroud, the overwhelming favourite for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Meanwhile, Chicago owns Carolina’s 2024 first-round pick. Reich’s reign was more incomplete than embarrassing.
