The Cowboys Lost Two Key Players, And…..
In Sunday’s 42-10 rout, the Dallas Cowboys lost player after player. Leighton Vander-Esch, a linebacker, and C.J. Goodwin, a safety, will now be placed on injured reserve. The Cowboys’ depth on defence is already a little bit lacking. Here’s how Dallas can bounce back after losing two of their most important players, as well as what the team should expect from their newest free agent addition.
How the Cowboys Will React to the Serious Injuries on Sunday
Player problems have caused the Dallas Cowboys to lose games against the 49ers and Cardinals. It seemed very unlikely that anything could have been done to halt the run. Against the 49ers, Cowboys linebackers Marquise Bell and Leighton Vander-Esch appeared to be lost, and now the latter will not be in the lineup for Dallas. Due to a neck strain, Vander-Esch will be out for the next four to six weeks. Dallas’ linebacker core is paper thin after Devin Harper was released. The NFL’s spare parts bin still has a lot of talent to offer, even though not much has changed.
Rashaan Evans, a linebacker, was added by Dallas on Wednesday morning to the practice squad. The star-studded defence in Dallas will now include the former Tennessee Titan and Atlanta Falcon. Evans, a former first-round selection, has accumulated two interceptions in his 76 career games played. Even at the age of 27, he still has a lot left in the tank and closes quickly. His skills won’t go to waste in Dallas since there is a growing awareness of the next man up mindset. Evans should step in to cover for Vander-Esch in the upcoming weeks.
The most likely immediate solution isn’t likely to please many Cowboys supporters. Malik Jefferson, a linebacker, is now on the practice squad and has not played much. Since bringing Jefferson in, Dallas has been all over him. Jefferson is going to fill in before Evans gets a defensive snap. Jefferson’s aggressive playstyle has little positive footage, and it has the potential to make or break the Dallas linebacker core. How prepared Jefferson is for significant playing time will become clear with time.
The Departure of C.J. Goodwin
It was not due to his injuries that Kavontae Turpin did not make the list. Turpin has excelled as a receiver and kick returner; however, a high ankle sprain will cause him to miss four to six weeks of action. Talks about replacing Turpin should wait since he’ll be back to full health in a month. The Cowboys are still in possession of their X-factor guy. He’s probably going to give his kick returner spot to Deuce Vaughn.
On any NFL roster, the unseen supports are the most important. Dallas needed Goodwin healthy because, since joining the NFL, he has been an elite special teams player. Even if he has played flawlessly on special teams, this goes beyond kicks and punts. Goodwin’s ability to play safety and special teams has kept his spot on the squad locked for a very long time. After his injury, the Cowboys have a hole in both positions, thus they cannot afford to lose another defensive player.
Ashtyn Davis, the safety for the Jets right now, finds himself in a peculiar circumstance. Although Jordan Whitehead and other players receive more starting minutes than him, he is still a hard-hitting safety. Given that Davis is a defensive weapon and has special teams ability, Dallas should keep an eye on him as a free agent potential. The Cowboys’ safety position is becoming older, so Davis might invigorate Dallas’ defence.
