Is it feasible for a basketball player to transfer to North Carolina from Duke? Or the other way around?
Well, not only is Armando Bacot trying to get a former Blue Devil to become a Tar Heel, but he is trying to get Michael Savarino, Mike Krzyzewski’s grandson, to make the trip to Chapel Hill.
It was reported earlier in the week that Savarino, a Duke walk-on turned scholarship player, would be entering the transfer portal upon his graduation, and he confirmed that later Tuesday night on social media.
Armando Bacot and Michael Savarino are good friends and hang out often, Bacot admitted earlier this month on the Barstool Bench Mob podcast.
“I’m really good friends with his grandson, too, [Michael] Savarino. We actually hang like out all the time, like literally, all the time, so, and a lot of people don’t know that,” Bacot said when asked about Mike Krzyzewski and
It did not take long for the Tar Heel star to make his pitch to the former Blue Devil.
The recruiting stories and friendship with Michael Savarino do not tell the full story of the history between Armando Bacot and the Blue Devils as the forward admitted he grew up a Duke fan.
“You know, funny story — I went to Coach K’s camp. So, I grew up, maybe a Duke fan. But I got to meet both coaches [Mike Krzyzewski and Roy Williams], and I mean, Coach K, he’s an unbelievable guy,” Bacot continued on the podcast.
Carter will be remembered as much for his longevity (22 total NBA seasons, sparking the famous “I got one more in me” meme template) as his highlights, which is saying something for a player known for being “half man, half amazing!” Vince Carter electrified the NBA with his power and leaping ability.
