Legends Clyde Butts and Joe Solomon have passed away, as announced with sadness by Cricket West Indies.
Posts on Twitter on Friday night verified both of their deaths.
The first said, “Tragic news from Guyana.” This evening saw the passing of Clyde Butts, a former West Indies off-spinner and captain of Guyana, as well as the former Chairman of Selectors for the West Indies.
We extend our deepest sympathies to his loved ones, family, and friends. I hope he finds peace.
An hour later, there was another tweet with the subject line “more sad news.” Today was Joe Solomon’s death. He was a former batter for West Indies and Guyana.
He gained notoriety for the run-out that resulted in the historic tied Test match at the Gabba in 1960.

Between 1958 and 1965, Solomon participated in 27 Test matches for the West Indies, making 1,326 runs primarily at Nos. 6 and 7 in the batting order.
Between 1985 and 1988, Butts participated in seven Test matches for the West Indies and claimed ten wickets.
He became well-known for his run-out in the famous 1960 Test match at the Gabba that ended in a draw.
