Miles Bascombe, a former batter for the West Indies, has been named the new director of cricket for Cricket West Indies (CWI) with a three-year contract. Jimmy Adams, who quits after six years, will be replaced by Bascombe. The 37-year-old Bascombe was the men’s selector at CWI from 2019 to 2021, the technical director of the Windward Islands Cricket Board, and he played one Twenty20 international match for the West Indies in 2011.

Following a thorough recruitment process, Miles stood out to the panel with his skills, experience and intimate knowledge of our cricket system, especially at Territorial Board level,” CWI CEO Johnny Grave said in a board release. “His passion and understanding of the game at all levels are outstanding. He is a critical thinker with a strong analytical and strategic mindset, which will be hugely beneficial to us as we embark on formulating our new four-year strategic plan. I have no doubt he will hit the ground running and will relish the challenge before us to develop higher standards and better structures within our cricket system.
Bascombe played for Windward Islands and Combined Campuses and Colleges while featuring in all three formats in domestic cricket. He played 24 first-class games, 26 List-A matches and 25 T20s.
Bascombe will take up his new role on August 1. Until then, CWI high performance manager Graeme West will act as the interim director of cricket.
