Although the New York Giants have stated that they believe in starting quarterback Daniel Jones, they still plan to try to select a quarterback later in the month.
However, if the Giants want to select one of the top four quarterbacks—Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy—they may have to trade back into the first round if they want to select one of those players.
What would a trade like that involve? With regard to the Kansas City Chiefs, who own Pick No. 32 in the first round, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox put forth the following scenario:
The 2024 Round 1 Pick (No. 32) and 2024 Round 4 Pick (No. 131) go to the Giants.
Chiefs Receive: No. 47 in the second round and No. 70 in the third round of 2024.
Not only does it make sense, but it would also be less taxing on the Giants draft haul this year and next, should they trade back into the first round for a quarterback (assuming they draft a receiver at No. 6, which is still very much the most realistic scenario at this point).

However, it makes more sense to trade back into the first round in order to have a chance at either Spencer Rattler of South Carolina or Bo Nix of Oregon. Not only would the Giants be able to acquire a quarterback on a five-year contract (because first-round picks have an option year in their contracts), but the cost would also be significantly lower than the other option.
Now, let’s examine this suggestion. According to Knox, “the 2024 draft class has an impressive second tier of talent, so teams like the Kansas City Chiefs—who should be eager to augment their roster with rookie contracts—should be plenty interested in trading out of Round 1.”
