The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly considering parting ways with their $260 million superstar infielder, Nolan Arenado, after attempting to trade him throughout the offseason. With a large contract and a no-trade clause, moving Arenado has proven challenging, especially since he reportedly cleared trades to just six teams: the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies. However, none of these teams have shown strong interest in a deal, though the market may still shift. ESPN’s David Schoenfield recently suggested that the Cardinals
could part with Arenado in a major trade this season. Schoenfield noted, “Arenado’s future is uncertain after the team tried to move him in the offseason.” He also pointed out that Arenado, who is making $32 million this year and has salaries of $27 million in 2026 and $15 million in 2027, might be tough to trade, but his strong early performance—boasting more walks than strikeouts and a solid batting average—could generate interest. Teams in need of third base upgrades, such as the Angels, Padres, Dodgers, and Phillies, may take a look. There’s even a possibility Arenado could expand his trade options by waiving his no-trade clause for teams like the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, or Houston Astros.
