Shedeur Sanders Drops Hint About Steelers Interest: ‘I Like DK Metcalf and George Pickens’

Shedeur Sanders might be eyeing a future in Pittsburgh, based on comments he made during a recent appearance on The Rush with Maxx Crosby. When asked about NFL receivers he admires, Sanders name-dropped two big-time playmakers—Seattle’s DK Metcalf and the Steelers’ George Pickens.

“Whoever ends up being the quarterback for DK Metcalf and George Pickens—I like those guys,” Sanders said. “So, take that however you want if you’re listening.”

The comment is fueling speculation about his interest in joining the Steelers, especially considering Pittsburgh hosted Sanders for a pre-draft visit in early April. Head coach Mike Tomlin praised Sanders following the meeting, noting the quarterback’s mental toughness and competitive drive.

“It was a standard pre-draft visit—getting to know him, understanding how he thinks about the game,” Tomlin explained. “What really stood out were traits that are clear on film: his grit and his competitive nature. Those intangibles don’t always get enough attention.”

Shedeur Sanders' Behavior Appears To Be Hurting His NFL Draft Stock - The Spun

Although Tomlin has a longstanding relationship with Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s Hall of Fame father, he said the meeting focused solely on the younger Sanders and did not involve discussions about his dad.

Once projected as a potential top-three pick, Shedeur Sanders’ draft stock has dipped in recent weeks, increasing the likelihood that he could still be available when the Steelers pick at No. 21 overall. His admiration for Pickens and the strong impression he left on Pittsburgh’s staff could make him an intriguing option if he slides that far.
