DEAL SET: the Dallas cowboys have offered $3.50millions for the extension contract of Gavin Escobar…..

Tyron Smith, one of the best offensive linemen in the game, has opted to move on after playing for the Dallas Cowboys for 13 seasons. In order to keep superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers safe, Smith signed a contract with the New York Jets.

Though many would have assumed Smith would retire as a member of America’s Team, this was an unexpected move by the player, and it appears the Cowboys were unwilling to meet Smith’s asking price in NFL free agency.

It’s hardly surprising that New York would pay a premium to acquire Aaron Rodgers, since the Jets are in a desperate search for the greatest front-row protection to keep him upright and effective in the 2024 NFL season.

According to longstanding team owner Jerry Jones via Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas is looking for a left tackle replacement to keep Dak Prescott playing at a high level. Tyler Smith is expected to take over unless the Cowboys find a better option in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Cowboys do to address the void at left tackle, but the team has had to deal with Tyron Smith’s injuries over the years, so there’s always been an option on the team.

Unlike other contenders in the NFC, the Cowboys haven’t done much to improve their roster this offseason, as they’ve lost more players than added at this point, but that could change in the draft.

It should come as no surprise that New York would bring in Rodgers and pay a price to do so, since the Jets are in a frantic search for the greatest upfront protection available to keep him upright and effective during the 2024 NFL season.
