Patrick Peterson was scheduled to contribute $9.78 million against the salary limit in 2024, per the terms of his two-year contract that the Steelers negotiated with him a year ago. By dismissing him, the team was able to save $6.85 million. Rather than a sign that the Steelers aren’t interested in working with Peterson in 2024, I see the decision to release him as a cap-related measure.
