For the last five or six years, the San Francisco 49ers have been among the NFL’s most successful teams. Its success is largely due to the hiring of head coach Kyle Shanahan.
The Niners under Shanahan have finished 54-29 in the previous five seasons. During that time, his teams have made numerous deep postseason runs, making it to three NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl, where they were narrowly defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Of course, one feather in Shanahan’s cap that has escaped him thus far in his career is success on the biggest stage of the game. When his top-seeded Niners play the Green Bay Packers this Saturday night in town, he’ll start his quest to make that right.
San will be led by victory.
When they were students at Cherry Creek High School, which is located just outside of Denver, in the late 1990s, developed a like for one another (per FanBuzz). At that time, Mike Shanahan, Kyle’s father, was the head coach of the Denver Broncos, as you may remember.
During their time in college, they strayed. Mandy stayed in the area and attended the University of Colorado to study English literature. Though tragedy had a part in bringing the couple back together, Kyle continued to follow his football goals, playing wide receiver at Duke and later the University of Texas in Austin.
While having a gallstone removed, Mandy’s mother Nancy O’Donnell received an unexpected diagnosis of Stage 4 gallbladder cancer. Nancy was a “vibrant and healthy eighth-grade teacher” who passed away a short while
Dallas finished the regular season with a 12-5 record and the NFC East title, while the Philadelphia Eagles faltered after a 10-1 start. But since then, the Cowboys have lost a number of important members of their starting lineup from the previous campaign, including defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, offensive lineman Tyron Smith, and running back Tony Pollard, to free agency.
Although owner Jerry Jones had declared that the team will go “all-in” this year, these departures have left Dallas with a relatively thin roster and limited ability to replace those players within the salary cap.
Given that McCarthy and Prescott are both approaching the last years of their current contracts, they have a difficult situation to manage this season due to the contrast between expectations and the roster’s reality.
