The Philadelphia Eagles have already confirmed plans to reshape their roster for next season, just days after beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Though the city of Philadelphia continues to celebrate their second title in seven years, attention has already turned to the 2025 campaign in the front office.
Already, 13 players have swiftly been retained and signed to reserves/future contracts. They will, at the very least, remain part of the practice squad moving forward.
Defensive backs Tariq Castro-Fields, Parry Nickerson, A.J. Woods and Andre’ Sam have been brought back, along with two linebackers in Dallas Grant and Ochaun Mathis, two defensive linemen, K.J. Henry and Gabe Hall, wide receivers Elijah Cooks and Danny Grant, running back Tyrion Davis-Price, tight end Nick Muse and offensive lineman Laekin Vakalahi, who have won contracts.
Once the Super Bowl finished, the Eagles could expand their roster from the in-season limit of 53 to the off-season limit of 90 players.
The team made 13 signings on Friday, the day of the Super Bowl parade, according to the NFL’s official transaction wire.
Each player, aside from WR Cooks, finished the season on the Eagles’ practice squad. He has, however, spent a week on the squad during the playoffs.
It is common practice for players to be signed to such contracts, which allows them to join the offseason roster and compete for a place next season while at training camp and pre-season matches.
Trevor Booker, E.J. Jenkins, Tristin McCollum, and Brett Toth finished the 2023 season on the practice squad before ending the following season on the Eagles’ roster, showing that this pathway can be fruitful.
There are five players who were on the practice squad at the end of the season who have not been retained.
FB Khari Blasingame, LB Nicholas Morrow, DE Charles Harris, QB Ian Book, and WR Kyle Philips are now all free agents and can sign for any team, including the Eagles.
