Breaking: Saints Land Elite Superstar After He Rejects Eagles & Chiefs

Saints Bring Back to Strengthen Running Back Group

The New Orleans Saints have opted to retain veteran running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, signing him to a one-year deal for the 2025 season, the team announced Thursday. This contract gives the former first-round pick another shot at securing a permanent role on the roster.

Edwards-Helaire had limited playing time in 2024 but joined the Saints’ practice squad in December when Alvin Kamara was sidelined with injuries. He eventually appeared in the final two games, tallying 13 carries for 46 yards and adding three receptions for 24 yards in the passing game.

Originally selected 32nd overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2020 NFL Draft, Edwards-Helaire made an immediate impact as a rookie, rushing for 803 yards and four touchdowns. However, his role declined over the next three seasons, leading to his departure in free agency. Seeking a fresh start, he signed with the Saints late in 2024.

With a full offseason ahead, Edwards-Helaire will compete for a roster spot under new head coach Kellen Moore. His versatility as both a rusher and receiver could make him a valuable asset in the Saints’ backfield. As New Orleans looks to solidify its running back group for 2025, Edwards-Helaire will have the opportunity to prove he belongs.
