Giants Predicted To Miss Out on Franchise QB in 2025 NFL Draft, Land Micah Parsons-Style Player Instead
Quarterback Drew Lock humorously cost the New York Giants the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft during Week 17 with a standout performance. Despite this, securing a franchise quarterback remains the Giants’ most pressing need. However, drafting one might not be feasible, as the team currently holds the No. 3 overall pick.
The Tennessee Titans, who hold the top pick, are almost certain to draft a quarterback, with speculation pointing to Miami Hurricanes star Cam Ward. Meanwhile, the Giants are eyeing Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, who recently wore cleats inspired by the team. Unfortunately, the Cleveland Browns, picking at No. 2, stand in their way and are expected to select a quarterback as well.
If the Browns indeed choose a quarterback, the Giants will need to pivot their draft strategy.
Giants Predicted to Select Abdul Carter
The Giants have experienced mixed success with recent top-10 picks. In the 2022 NFL Draft, they selected edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux (No. 5) and offensive lineman Evan Neal (No. 7). While Thibodeaux has shown promise, Neal has struggled, and the Giants might consider adding another high-impact defender to their roster.
Alan Goldsher of PFN predicts that the Giants will draft Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. Goldsher likens Carter to Dallas Cowboys standout Micah Parsons, citing his undeniable talent and gritty playing style that would resonate in New York.
“EDGE isn’t a pressing need for the Giants, but they require reinforcements across the board. Abdul Carter, with his relentless energy and skill, is simply too good to overlook. In a less quarterback-driven draft, Carter could have been in contention for the top pick,” Goldsher explained.
If Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are unavailable, Carter would be a safe and strategic choice for the Giants. Another intriguing option could be two-way star and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, whose versatility and media appeal would be a perfect fit for New York.
Abdul Carter’s Personal Preferences
While Carter is a top-five talent, his dream team lies elsewhere in the NFC East.
Standing at 6’3″ and weighing 250 pounds, Carter’s rare blend of power and speed has drawn attention since his high school days in Philadelphia. Following an impressive collegiate career at Penn State, he’s ready for the NFL but would prefer to play for his hometown team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Playing for the Eagles would definitely be a dream of mine,” Carter shared in July, reflecting on his roots in Philadelphia, where he attended La Salle College High School before choosing Penn State.
The Eagles, however, are unlikely to land Carter, as they’re projected to pick late in the first round after a successful playoff run. Carter acknowledges this reality, saying, “I’m aiming to be the No. 1 overall pick. Unless the Eagles trade Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, or other assets, they won’t have that kind of selection.”
While Carter may not fulfill his dream of playing in Philadelphia, his talents and work ethic ensure that he’ll make a significant impact wherever he lands in the NFL.
