Teoscar Hernández, an outfielder who was instrumental in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2024 playoff success, has signed a three-year, $66 million contract with the team. According to ESPN, the agreement includes a $15 million fourth-year option, $23 million in deferred payments, and a $23 million signing bonus. The Dodgers are making another big move with this signing in an attempt to keep their roster competitive for the 2025 campaign.
Compared to last year’s splashy offseason signings of Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers have bolstered their lineup in a calculated manner. They added outfielder Michael Conforto to their roster earlier this offseason and signed Blake Snell to a rich five-year contract. Hernández’s return now guarantees consistency and fortifies their hitting order even more.
Hernández is 32 years old and just finished a stellar 2024 season in which he won a Silver Slugger award and blasted 33 home runs. He helped the Dodgers overcome the New York Yankees in five games during the World Series by hitting.350 with a.931 OPS, which was an equally noteworthy postseason effort. His reliable power and clutch hitting make him an essential component of the Dodgers’ lineup.
Although some Dodgers supporters may object to the contract’s usage of deferred money, the move fits with the team’s financial plan and enables them to keep a successful player without placing an undue financial strain on payroll. Alongside the Dodgers’ all-star lineup, which includes Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Shohei Ohtani, Hernández is most likely to succeed.
The Dodgers’ lineup is still among the strongest in Major League Baseball, with Hernández hitting behind these three future Hall of Famers. Over the length of the contract, he should be able to meet expectations because of his ability to perform well under duress and to bring both power and consistency to the plate.
The Dodgers have strengthened their squad in preparation for another deep playoff run and a chance to duplicate their championship triumph in 2025 by keeping Hernández and making other wise summer decisions.
