Houston has had a strong start to the season with a 12-6 record, currently leading the Southwest Division.

Stein reports that the Rockets intend to continue focusing on their emerging young talent rather than pursuing a high-profile trade.

“Houston is committed to prioritizing internal development this season, with its young roster off to a 12-6 start, despite being mischaracterized by rival front offices as a team aiming for a big move before the February 6 trade deadline,” Stein noted.

The Rockets, who have been rebuilding for years, are finally seeing progress with players like Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green at the forefront.

However, Stein also emphasized that the Rockets will eventually need to decide whether to keep these young players or make a move to strengthen the team.

“Most importantly, the Rockets plan to prioritize both timeline and talent fit when making their next major trade, according to league sources,” Stein added.

The roster includes veterans Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, and Steven Adams, alongside seven first-round picks aged 23 or younger, selected between No. 2 (Jalen Green) and No. 20 (Cam Whitmore).
