On Friday, Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever had a five-point lead over the Minnesota Lynx at the half. But they played a chilly third quarter, rapidly losing the team’s lead.
Amidst the team’s appalling third quarter performance and eventual 99-88 defeat, Caitlin sent a warning to her players. The Lynx outscored the Fever 29-12 in the quarter as they missed their first six attempts at field goals and ended the period 3-for-15.
The Lynx surged out to a 12-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but after a critical turnover by Clark in transition, the Fever rallied to cut the advantage to one point. After the game, Clark said that the team cannot win with a performance like the third quarter.
“When they outscore you by 17 points in a quarter, it’s difficult to win the game,” Clark remarked. Clark accepted responsibility for the fourth-quarter loss as well, saying that a play ruined her team’s momentum. Before Friday’s game, the Fever had won five straight and had guaranteed their postseason position for the first time since 2016.
