Many fans believe that the Miami Heat need to make some changes to reassert themselves as a contender in the Eastern Conference. Although they’ve reached the NBA Finals twice this decade, there’s a sense that many teams have surpassed them. It’s expected that the Heat will be much healthier this time, but even so, their playoff run might not go far. However, the right move could quickly put them back in contention. Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls has been frequently mentioned as a trade target, but Brandon Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans might be an even better option.
In a post on FadeAway World titled “5 Best Targets For The Miami Heat Ahead Of The 2024-25 Season,” Eddie Bitar suggests that Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Haywood Highsmith could be traded for Ingram. Bitar argues that Ingram would provide the Heat with a versatile scorer who complements Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. During the 2023–24 season, Ingram averaged 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game, shooting 35.5% from three-point range and 49.2% from the field. His offensive skills include a strong mid-range game, one-on-one scoring, and the ability to create opportunities for teammates. Defensively, Ingram’s 7’3″ wingspan and 6’8″ height allow him to guard multiple positions, fitting well with Miami’s switch-heavy defense.
Although Herro was once seen as a potential superstar, his performance has leveled off over the past three seasons, leading to questions about his ceiling. Trading him would be a tough decision, but more Heat fans have warmed to the idea recently. Jaquez Jr. had an impressive rookie season and could become a great player with more experience, making him a difficult asset to part with. Highsmith, while a reliable backup who played significant minutes in the playoffs and started several games, would be the easiest to replace among the three.
