“I Will Leave For Him To Play,” Edmonton Oilers Top Experienced Star Announced His Decision To Leave.

Ex-Oilers forward Andrew Cogliano announces retirement

Cogliano started his career with the Oilers and went on to play with the Colorado Avalanche for portions of the previous three seasons until winning his first Stanley Cup in 2022. Edmonton chose the 37-year-old with the 25th choice in the 2005 draft, and at the time, they thought he would be a vital component of their future.

With 18 goals and 45 points in his debut season with the Oilers in 2007–08, Cogliano appeared to have what it took to be a standout player. But as he repositioned himself as more of a bottom-six, shut-down centerman, that point total turned out to be the highest of his career.

After spending four seasons with the Oilers, Cogliano was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a second-round selection. Before playing for the Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, and Avalanche, he stayed with the Ducks for another eight seasons.

The Avalanche stated that Cogliano will be moving into a front-office position, which will involve working in player development, professional and amateur scouting, and with AHL club Colorado Eagles. Despite no longer playing, Cogliano won’t be leaving the NHL altogether.

Cogliano released a statement this morning, saying, “I am grateful for every moment and all that the game of hockey has given me and my family.” “I consider myself fortunate to have played for such a long time with such excellent teams and colleagues. It’s time to move on, even though I will miss spending every night in the dressing room with the guys and watching them fight for each other on the ice. I am grateful to all of the amazing fans for their unwavering support, as well as to everyone I have ever played for and with. I can’t wait to begin my next chapter at the front desk.
