Official NBA News: Just In Dallas Mavericks Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Experienced Superstar To Bolster Squad

MAVS MAKE BIG SPLASH, ACQUIRE KLAY THOMPSON IN HISTORIC SIX-TEAM DEAL

He is known by most as half of the legendary Splash Brothers backcourt of the Golden State Warriors.

But Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks made a big splash of their own after he spent 13 years playing for the Warriors. On Saturday morning, the five-time All-Star was dealt to Dallas in a record-breaking sign-and-trade that also saw the Mavs acquire a 2025 second-round draft choice.

In the first-ever six-team trade in NBA history, the Mavericks parted ways with fourth-year swingman Josh Green in exchange for a second-round pick.

In addition to the Mavs and Warriors, Charlotte, Denver, Minnesota, and Philadelphia were all parties to the historic transaction. In exchange for cash, the Nuggets will receive some guard Reggie Jackson, Green, a 2029 and a 2030 second-round selection, while the Timberwolves will receive cash, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2031 second-round pick swap.

In other trades, the Sixers will get a 2031 second-round selection, while the Warriors will get guard Buddy Hield and forward Kyle Anderson.

Thompson agreed to a $50 million, three-year contract. He was a part of the Warriors’ four NBA championship victories, the last being in 2022 following Golden State’s five-game victory against the Mavs in the Western Conference Finals. The Mavericks, who lost to the Boston Celtics in five games in the NBA Finals last month, would be well-suited with Thompson’s 6’6″ and 220 pounds.

A future Hall of Fame player, Thompson joins a pair of Mavs’ future Hall of Fame guards in Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving while also increasing the profile of a Mavs’ squad that cements itself as a major threat to win next season’s NBA title. While the Mavs made just 18 percent of their open three-pointers in the Finals against the Celtics, Thompson is extremely capable of filling that void since he was second in the league in catch-and-shoot three-pointers last season and also converted 1,575 catch-and-shoot three-pointers over the past 10 seasons.
