Salt Lake pitcher Shay Timmer is expected to sign with Detroit Tigers organization
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (July 17, 2024) – On Wednesday Following the 2024 MLB First-Year Player draft, former Salt Lake Bruin starting pitcher Shay Timmer signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers organization to pursue his baseball career.
When the 20-round competition came to an end on Tuesday, July 16, the Tigers swiftly added the 6’10” hurler to their roster. On Monday, July 22, he will report to the Tigers organization.
Timmer, a redshirt sophomore with the Bruins, finished 6-1 in 12 games (eight starts) and was awarded second-team All-Scenic West Athletic Conference. With the second-highest number of innings pitched (55), the former Bingham High standout finished with a 3.27 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Timmer held opponents to a.205 batting average while striking out 66 hitters against 33 walks.
Timmer overtakes San Francisco Giants Sean Hjelle as the second-tallest player in affiliated baseball right away. Joining him at the professional level are former Bruins Breck Eichelberger (ACL Padres), Eddy Alvarez (AAA Red Sox), and Tanner Banks (Chicago White Sox).
