49ers sign WR and place Williams on the Did Not Report List due to holdout.
After losing a few receivers at the beginning of training camp, the 49ers were able to add some depth to the position on Thursday morning.
San Francisco announced that wide receiver Malik Turner has signed a one-year contract, with Brandon Aiyuk not practicing due to continuing contract negotiations and rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall on the Non-Football Injury List. The 49ers also placed Trent Williams on the Reseve/Did Not Report List in order to free up space on the roster.
Turner, 28, had three appearances in his final game as a 49ers player in 2022.
After signing as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks, he made his league debut in 2018. He played with the Dallas Cowboys for two seasons, the Seattle Seahawks for two, and San Francisco for one. He has played in 44 games (three starts) throughout the course of his five-year career, hauling in 29 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns.
The 6-foot-2, 202-pound receiver trained with the Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders practice squads before joining the Indianapolis Colts for training camp in 2023.
Turner caught 143 passes for 1,804 yards and 10 touchdowns in 46 games (35 starts) while attending the University of Illinois.
