The organization has agreed to terms with veteran defensive end Nick Thurman.
Thurman, who was an undrafted rookie with the Texans out of the University of Houston, spent three seasons with the Patriots. He has also spent time with the Falcons and Jaguars. In eight career games, he has faced LaBryan Rayyed.
The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder possesses the length the Panthers are looking for as they convert to a 3-4 defense.
On Monday, they signed a defensive end and dismissed defensive tackle Bravvion Roy.
They still need to make two equivalent moves when the deal becomes official, as they agreed to terms with linebacker Deion Jones earlier that day. Two players will have to be discharged before Tuesday’s practice.
