Having said that, we shouldn’t fool ourselves into thinking that her popularity as an influencer stems exclusively from basketball. It would be disrespectful to history and reality to argue differently.
Because Clark is a White woman who has excelled in a sport that is perceived as predominantly Black, a straight woman joining a league with a significant LGBTQ+ player base, and more, she is more appealing to local and national corporations.
