The 76ers are currently facing a significant roster hole due to the departure of Buddy Hield.
Buddy Hield is another rotational player that the Philadelphia 76ers are losing to the Golden State Warriors in a sign-and-trade.
Hield, one of the best 3-point shooters in the league, made 6.8 attempts per game last season and hit 38.6%. In a few short days, the Warriors have a guard to replace Klay Thompson, but does this move really leave the Sixers without a significant hole to fill?
It’s possible that Philadelphia’s front management anticipated Hield would relocate this summer, leaving them to cover the void before it even existed. Their first move was to choose former Duke Blue Devil Jared McCain with the No. 16 pick in the NBA Draft. In addition to being vivacious off the court, McCain has the ability to thrill supporters with his 3-point shooting. During his rookie year at Duke, he averaged 14.3 points on 41.4% shooting from 3-point range in 5.8 attempts.
Eric Gordon, an experienced player, was their second free agent signing, taking a minimal deal. Gordon signed with Philadelphia instead of exercising his player option to stay with the Phoenix Suns through the 2025 campaign. Despite scoring 11 points per game last season, the 35-year-old was another dangerous player from outside the arc, making 37.8% of his attempts.
Even while neither Gordon nor McCain are now on Hield’s level, it’s safe to assume that their shooting departments will continue to be strong.
