Breaking News: Former New York Rangers NHL player passes away at 52…

Chris Simon, a former NHL enforcer, passed away. 52 was his age. According to an NHL Players’ Association representative who has spoken with Simon’s agent, the late forward passed away on Monday night in his hometown of Wawa, Ontario. This information was released on Tuesday.

Simon’s family announced his suicide on Wednesday.

In a statement sent through agent Paul Theofanous, Simon’s family attributed his death to CTE, the degenerative brain condition chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
The family said, “We ask for privacy during this very difficult time and will not be releasing any further details at this time.” “We are grateful to all who have shared in our heartbreaking loss.”
While a person is still living, it is impossible to prove CTE; however, clinicians can identify probable instances based on neurological tests and symptoms. Simon participated in 15 NHL seasons, 857 regular-season and post-season games, from 1993 to 2008. He ranked 67th in league history with almost 100 fights and 1,824 penalty minutes during his career.
