Good News: Just In New Orleans Saints Confirm To Reached Mutual Agreement To Re-Sign Top Experienced Star

Tyrann Mathieu, a safety, and the New Orleans Saints have reached an agreement on a two-year deal that will last through the 2025 season, according to a statement made on Thursday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round (69th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft out of LSU, Mathieu, who stands 5-9 and 190, has 11 years of NFL experience. After excelling at St. Augustine High School in his native New Orleans, Mathieu played professionally for the Cardinals from 2013 to 2017, the Houston Texans from 2018 to 2022, and the Kansas City Chiefs from 2019 to 2021. In 2022, he signed a contract with the Saints. Playing in 163 career games with 154 starts over the course of 11 NFL seasons, Mathieu has amassed 772 tackles (634 solo), 11 sacks, 33 interception returns for 501 yards with four touchdowns, 99 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries. Since joining the NFL in 2013, Mathieu has been selected to three Pro Bowls, three Associated Press All-Pro teams, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2010 All-Decade Team. His 33 interceptions are tied for the most in the NFL.

As a starter for the Saints in each of the last two seasons, Mathieu has amassed 34 starts, 166 tackles (114 solo), one sack, seven interception returns for 166 yards, 17 passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He leads the club in overall takeaways as well as interceptions throughout this time. He started all 17 games and finished with 75 tackles (50 solo), four interceptions for a career-high 122 return yards, a 27-yard score, and nine passes defensed in 2023. He also tied for the team lead in tackles. For his considerable community engagement in his hometown, Mathieu was chosen by the team as their nomination for the 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, off the field.
