Milan Lucic of the Bruins was detained following a rumored domestic incident; he is leaving the NHL.
Milan Lucic, who was detained early on Saturday morning for a rumored domestic disturbance, will be placed on an indefinite leave of absence from the Boston Bruins.
According to reports, Brittany, Lucic’s wife, reported the attack to authorities by calling 911.
Via Sportsnet, the Boston Bruins released a statement saying, “We are aware of the situation involving Milan Lucic Friday evening.”
“Milan has decided to take an indefinite hiatus from the team. The organization will work with the Lucic family to provide them any help and assistance they may require because we take these things very seriously.”
Due to an ankle injury, Lucic has not been able to play since October 21. The 35-year-old has averaging 11:58 TOI each night and recorded two assists in four games this season.
Although there was a domestic fight between Lucic and his girlfriend in 2011, no charges were brought.
When questioned about Lucic on Saturday, Bruins captain Brad Marchand said to reporters, “The biggest thing for us is we care a lot about their family.” “We’re a family in here, we’re all very, very, very close, so we’re obviously very concerned and upset for them for what they’re going through.”
“We are very supportive of Lucic, the children, and his wife Brittany. That’s going to be it for the time being out of respect for them.”
On July 1, Lucic, who won a Stanley Cup in 2011 and was a fan favorite in Boston after playing for the team for the first eight years of his career, agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with the Bruins. “Looch” was one of the NHL’s most lethal power forwards during his first stay with the Bruins, racking up 342 points and 772 penalty minutes in 566 games.
Lucic played with the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames before returning to the Bruins.
