The two recent additions to the Broncos have the following contracts.
Over the course of one week, the Denver Broncos are expected to have added two linebackers to their 90-man offseason roster.
Linebacker Andre Smith was signed by the Broncos to a one-year contract last week. During mandatory minicamp, Smith beat out six other players who were competing for a contract to try out for the squad.
Smith, a 6-0, 240-pound player, has participated in 62 games, mostly as a special teams player. Aaron Wilson of KPRC-TV reports that the value of his one-year contract is $1.125 million. The NFL’s Veteran Salary Benefit regulation means that Smith will have a $985,000 salary hit in 2024.
Dondrea Tillman, a defensive lineman and pass rusher with the Birmingham Stallions, and Denver also reached a three-year agreement on Wednesday. Although Tillman passed his physical, his release from the UFL contract is required before the contract is finalized. Apparently that’s only a formality, so Tillman can sign on Thursday.
According to Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette, Tillman’s three-year contract is valued at $2.83 million, or $795,000 in 2024, $960,000 in 2025, and $1,075,000 in 2026. For a UFL player, that’s an amazing bargain, but the only thing that’s guaranteed is Tillman’s $10,000 signing bonus.
Three seasons and three championships later, Tillman (6-3, 270 pounds) was a member of the Stallions (two in the USFL and one in the UFL). At the age of 26, he will now get his first opportunity in the NFL.
