In his mid-20s, Bridges had been improving his scoring stats.
Initially, this seemed like a smart move, as Bridges averaged over 26 points per game early in 2023. However, his performance declined to below 20 points per game, and the Nets ended the season with a 32-50 record, near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Despite not becoming the superstar the Nets hoped for, some young players around him showed promise.
Additionally, Bridges, known for his defensive skills as a “two-way player,” expressed a desire for a more supportive role and dissatisfaction with being the focal point.

They traded Bridges for a significant haul: first-round picks in 2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031; a 2025 second-round pick; and multiple draft swaps with teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets. They also received Bojan Bogdanovic, a 35-year-old Croatian winger.
