Wofford’s best pitcher has been acquired by LSU baseball through the transfer portal. Zac Cowan, a right-handed pitcher, has committed to LSU. The advocate has been informed by a source.
Cowan was Wofford’s best pitcher in 2024, going 10-2 over 110 innings with a 3.35 ERA. This season, he completed three games, started seventeen, and struck out 124 hitters.
Cowan pitched six scoreless innings against Long Island to route to a 5-2 victory, but he did not face LSU in the Chapel Hill regional. His only other appearance in the regional was this one.
Before the Chapel Hill regional, LSU coach Jay Johnson lauded Cowan, calling him a very gifted athlete with a reliable delivery and a converted position player. Johnson praised Cowan’s outstanding fastball control and change-up, pointing out that he can pitch both inside and outside of the strike zone with equal effectiveness.
According to earlier reports, LSU also obtained Camden Wicker, a right-handed pitcher from Wofford, through the transfer site. The Advocate has made it clear that Wicker has not made a commitment to LSU, though.
Along with South Florida right-hand pitcher Chandler Dorsey and Indiana State first baseman Luis Hernandez, Cowan is LSU’s third addition via the transfer portal. Five junior college players have also committed to the Tigers for the next campaign.
Nine players from LSU have signed through the transfer portal, including right-hander Aiden Moffett, left-hander Cam Johnson, and outfielder Paxton Kling.
