ESPN REPORT: So Sad, The West Virginia Mountaineers Head Coach Has Been Issued
The West Virginia Mountaineers men’s basketball team is currently undergoing significant changes. The university has decided to part ways with interim head coach Josh Eilert.
This decision follows a challenging season where the team recorded a 9-23 overall performance, finishing last in the Big 12 conference. Eilert had stepped in following Bob Huggins’ resignation in June 2023 after Huggins was embroiled in controversy for using a homophobic slur during a radio interview and later facing a DUI charge.
West Virginia University’s vice president and athletic director, Wren Baker, announced that a national search for a new head coach is now underway. The university expressed gratitude to Eilert for his leadership during a difficult period but emphasized the need to move forward and identify a new leader for their program.
