With its second offensive lineman commitment in as many days, Alabama football recruits continue to gain pace. According to On3 Sports, 3-star offensive tackle Mal Waldrep committed to Alabama on Tuesday. From 1998 to 2002, his father, Mal, was a member of the Crimson Tide football team.
Waldrep is a graduate of Central Phenix City High School in Phenix City, Alabama. He is 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 320 pounds. In Alabama, he is ranked as the 21st overall player for the Class of 2025. Some recruiting organizations rank him as a 3-star talent, however Rivals grades him as a 4-star prospect.
Waldrep is the second offensive lineman to pledge to Alabama for the Class of 2025, following Michael Carroll. Along with Carroll, he becomes the fourth pledge in as many days for quarterback Keelon Russell and cornerback Chuck McDonald.
Waldrep turned down offers from Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, and other schools in favor of Alabama after making an official visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend.
With Waldrep’s commitment, Alabama now has 14 commits for the Class of 2025, which is still third nationally (behind Notre Dame and Ohio State), according to 247Sports.
As the Central Phenix City Red Devils’ starting left tackle in the previous season, Waldrep showcased his abilities, leading the team to a perfect 14-0 record and the Alabama Class 7A state championship. Interestingly, Red Morgan and Isaia Faga, two other members of the Alabama Class of 2024, played with Waldrep.
