I adore Caitlin Clark. It’s acceptable to hate Caitlin Clark. You might love her Iowan roots. You can hate her for being from Iowa. You can find her unpleasant or charming, since she’s white. In terms of sexual orientation, the same is true. You either love or hate the media’s fixation with her. Either you adore the all-time high TV ratings or you detest them. Her interviews could come across as cutesy or offensive to you.
But one thing is for sure, and we are all aware of it:
If Caitlin Clark had been a part of the American Olympic women’s basketball team in 2024, players who have been largely overlooked by the sports media at every Summer Olympic Games I have covered since 1984 would have finally received the recognition they deserve from a national and international audience.
