North Carolina forward Harrison Ingram announced on Saturday that he’s entering the NBA Draft. Inside Carolina analyst Sean Moran joined host Joey Powell on the Coast to Coast show and went in-depth on why Ingram opted to turn, what his role in the NBA could look like and what UNC will target in the portal to replace him. Here are Moran’s five biggest takeaways:
“Nobody else has played with that type of joy and passion in quite some time. They’re losing one of the guys that brought the team together and were able to push it from a mental and emotional standpoint. He increased his efficiency across the board at UNC. His ability to play the three and four will be missed. Once or twice, he was a little undersized at the four to match up, but for the most part, he created the mismatches. That helped Carolina a lot. Tremendous player. He was a top 25 recruit coming out of high school. Most of those guys are one-and-done. The fact we got to see a third year from him, and on this better stage, was great for both parties.
Physically and mentally, he was ready to go. He could probably improve a little bit with another year in college, but his stock is probably not getting higher. There are a lot of things that he’s going to need to focus on as he tries to get into the NBA. They’re looking for skilled players and cerebral players, and he can fit in that role, even if it’s towards the end of the bench. You don’t have to worry about his intangibles. But his game will need to take another jump to earn a spot at the next level.
You think he’s just going to get better and improve, but at the same time, there was such happiness and chemistry with this team, and it’s not guaranteed to be the same next season. I got to watch him multiple times in high school. You could tell then how smart and level-headed he was. Good family. I talked to his dad early on, and he said, ‘Do you think he’s good enough for Carolina?’ It was fun to see him making it to Carolina after his stop at Stanford and now getting a chance to go to the NBA.”
