The Carolina basketball family connects all associated with hoops and UNC. This week, North Carolina’s R.J. Davis of the men’s team and Deja Kelly of the women’s team, united at The Skill Factory in Atlanta, Ga. to hone their craft ahead of what should be an exciting season for each program.

 

The Skill Factory is a sports skill and development organization that specializes in high-quality custom sports coaching and skill training programs. TSF has trained hundreds of basketball players from college, NBA, and international teams, including James Harden, John Wall, Brandon Ingram, Trae Collins, and Kemba Walker.

Davis was a key part of Carolina’s run to the National Championship game. He started all 39 games and finished the 2021-22 season, averaging 13.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the floor and 36.7 percent from three-point range.

Davis scored 30 points in UNC’s upset overtime win over No. 1 seed Baylor in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and 18 points in the win over No. 2 seed Duke in the Final Four.

 

Following the announcement of Davis’ return for his junior season, UNC head coach Hubert Davis released a statement praising the Tar Heel guard.

R.J. is Carolina basketball,” Coach Davis said. “He’s one of the best players in the country on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. His smile, personality, and character light up our team, our university, and our community. Nothing brings me more joy than having R.J. back for another season.”

 

A former five-star and top-10 recruit, Kelly is entering her third year as the Tar Heels’ primary ball handler. As a sophomore last season, Kelly garnered attention as one of the best guards in the nation after averaging 16.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists across 32 games played. She shot 36.6 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from behind the arc.
