By reminding Paul Mescal that he owes his career to starring in the renowned Denny’s commercial, Louis Theroux has mercilessly insulted Mescal.
The Irish actor Paul, 27, is the newest guest on the 53-year-old journalist’s podcast, which is available on Spotify.
Prior to his major breakthrough in Normal People, Paul gained notoriety in Ireland as a star of a Denny sausage commercial.
The commercial, which was shot two years before to the actor’s filming of Normal People, featured the actor eating a sausage.
Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Paul has now been asked how he got started. Louis has admitted that he brought up the advertisement to bring Paul back to earth.
It shows Louis questioning Paul, saying things such, “You got your big break on a sausage advert?” What was your age?
Paul responds, “I was desperate, but I was too old to say yes to a sausage advertisement. It was presumably about (the period of Normal People), maybe 2018 or such. I recall not understanding how the set’s spit bucket operated.
“Well, I don’t think I know how that works,” Louis interrupted. so eating sausage is a must.

Louis follows up when they both start laughing, inquiring, “Did you get some fame off of that?”
Paul stated: “It’s something that Irish people talk about a lot.” to sort of knock me back down again.”
“That’s more or less why I did it,” Louis joked.
Paul clarified that he was old enough to have declined the job in the advertisement at the time.
He disclosed that he received €5,000 to appear in the 2018 Denny’s sausage commercial, money he utilised to cover the remainder of the year’s rent in Dublin.
