Dallas Cowboys quarterback talked about a lot of stuff with ESPN’s Adam Schefter on a recent interview including winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year award earlier in the year and his genuine thoughts on Ezekiel Elliott’s departure.
But lost in the shuffle might’ve been a quick but effective jab at one hated NFC East rival: The Washington Commanders.
Recently it was reported that the Commanders are being for over $6 billion, meaning that the controversial Dan Snyder era in the NFL is coming to an end. Naturally, Schefter wanted to get Dak Prescott’s thoughts on the whole thing.
And the quarterback of the Cowboys had an answer in his pocket that should spark pride throughout the fanbase that has had a rivalry with Washington’s team regardless of its current branding and name.
“Honestly my experience of playing Washington, that’s where I got my first win,” Prescott told Schefter on the insider’s podcast. “So a little bias there. I like to go back there.”
“But honestly every time the Dallas Cowboys go there – in my years and I’m sure it’s been in the past – it’s probably 60 Maybe 70% Cowboy fans, so it’s another home game on the road,” added Prescott. “So I’m a fan of it.
First of all, that’s quite the shoutout for Cowboys Nation courtesy of the starting quarterback. You’ve got to respect his PR skills, that was quite the dunk. What makes it even better is that he’s speaking the truth. Cowboys fans have been famously traveling very well to Washington games for many, many years now.
Secondly, that’s a great way to score a point on a divisional foe in the middle of the offseason. Now, to be fair, the Commanders took it to the Cowboys in January’s regular-season finale. One week before Dallas took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round, they were met in Washington with a 26-6 upset in which the team – Dak included – was unable to get anything going.
