On Monday, the NC State women’s basketball team will try to build on its outstanding campaign. The 3 seed Wolfpack (28-6, 13-5 in ACC play) will try to punch its ticket to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2022 when it takes on 6 seed Tennessee, one of the most illustrious programmes in college women’s basketball. The Wolfpack defeated 14 Chattanooga by double digits on Saturday in the first round of the Women’s NCAA Tournament.
Behind Aziaha James’ 19 points, all of which came in the second half, the Wolfpack was able to punch its ticket to the second round. NC State’s defense was stellar on Saturday: It held Chattanooga to single digits in three of four quarters and 33.3% shooting from the field while forcing nine turnovers. The win marked the 17th consecutive home win in the NCAA Tournament for the Wolfpack.
The Lady Vols (20-12, 10-6 in SEC play) are coming off a thumping win of their own in the first round of March Madness, taking down 11 seed Green Bay 92-63. Tennessee’s offense is led in scoring by forward Rickea Jackson at 19.7 points per game. She had a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds vs. Green Bay.
