Derrick White was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs with the 29th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. After five seasons with the team, he was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2022 in exchange for Josh Richardson, a 2022 first-round pick, Romeo Langford and a 2028 first-round pick. In recent seasons, White has established himself as one of the better two-way players in the league.
White featured in all 82 games with the Celtics last season, and averaged 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He shot 46.2% from the field, including 38.1% from deep. His defensive abilities led him to be named on the All-Defensive Second Team in 2023.
Center Neemias Queta, the only other player on the C’s injury report, will miss his fifth-straight contest due to right foot injury management. That situation’s a bit concerning, as head coach Joe Mazzulla noted the 24-year-old from Portugal’s lack of progress last week.
Tip-off at the Wells Fargo Center is at 7:00 p.m. EST. Inside The Celtics will have content related to the matchup before, during, and afterward. Follow @BobbyKrivitsky on Twitter for updates and analysis from pregame to post.
San Antonio Spurs guard Derrick White announced to his 92,000 Instagram followers on Thursday that he and his wife, Hannah are expecting a baby boy.
White shared on his Instagram story photos of the sonogram including a pair of baby Nike sneakers.
His sister-in-law Hailey White also took to social media to share the big news.
“My sister is having a baby boy,” she wrote on her Instagram story. “Hardest secret to keep for so long.”
The Whites got married over the summer and some of his Spurs teammates including Lonnie Walker IV, Jakob Poetl, Keldon Johnson, and Drew Eubanks showed up for the big day.
The couple reportedly met in college and got engaged last summer.
The Spurs starting guard, who joined the team in 2017, signed a $73 million, four-year extension and has also devoted time to get know the Alamo City better.
Earlier this year, White joined Spurs legend Manu Ginobili and several players for a tour of the city’s economically distressed West Side.
“It’s always nice to know more about your city,” White told the San Antonio Express-News. “There was a lot of history and a lot of background I learned from that tour. I am thankful to learn more about the West Side. It’s probably one of the poorest (neighborhoods) in the country, so it was good to see what they are doing to try to help and what we can do as well.”
