Ten Head-to-Head Battles

The Boston Celtics’ last game at State Farm Arena was a road game that ended in defeat. The Atlanta Hawks won 120–118. In addition to scoring 37 points, Jayson Tatum dished up five assists. He managed to pull down six defensive and two offensive rebounds.

The Atlanta Hawks have won three straight after winning their most recent game 120-106. This was a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers at home in State Farm Arena. Dejounte Murray scored 30, Garrison Mathews scored 21, and Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 16.

Whether your worries about the Celtics are murmurs behind a wall of confidence in the back of your mind or maybe a devil on your shoulder, they most likely made their presence known on Monday.

I detested seeing this setback to the Hawks, and I was not happy when Vit Krejci, who I had never heard of before, scorched the Cs for 16 points to lead Atlanta to a 30-point comeback.

It’s peculiar. This season, the Cs have looked amazing, but every time they lose a game—which only occurs around 21% of the time—the fan base loses it online. Several of the posts following the defeat gave the impression that this team had just suffered five straight losses.

Boston’s fans definitely get some sort of PTSD anytime their squad coughs up a big lead. It sucks and is the worst way to lose a basketball game. If you combine that with the fact that they still managed to give themselves a chance to win the game but were outplayed by the 10th-place Hawks in crunch time, it stings even more.

It feels like a lot of the hardship that the Celtics have faced over the past two-and-a-half seasons has been self-inflicted, sort of like what happened in Atlanta.

Just earlier this month, Dean Wade singlehandedly brought the Cleveland Cavaliers back from the dead to beat Boston. His hot shooting erased a 22-point fourth-quarter lead from the Cs that night and set the alarms off, much like they went off on Monday.
