Linebackers, whether on or off the ball, are required to perform a variety of duties, including playing the run, covering routes, and pressuring the passer. Additionally, they must perform against a wide range of players with various ability levels. That’s why it makes sense that they are hard to come by, at least those who are multitasking. Though the Steelers may have lowered their need at this position with the acquisition of Patrick Queen, a free agent, there are still several intriguing prospects at the position in this year’s draft. The rush on inside linebackers is expected to begin on Day 2.

Regarded as a vintage, downward thumper at inside linebacker, Jacobs has contributed to Penn State’s success the last three seasons. Nevertheless, his 40-yard sprint time of 4.58 seconds at the Combine grabbed attention. Although Jacobs’s play recognition may use some improvement, the resources are available. He can be a devil on special teams while he’s learning.

Although there were doubts about his stature, he weighed 228 pounds at the Combine. Trotter, a former NFL linebacker’s son, has long been ranked highly on all draft rankings. However, because he lacks some of the length and heft of the guys ahead of him, he only ranks fifth on my ranking. Still, the production value was high.
