For the Carolina Panthers, it’s easy to say that the previous season has been a worst-case scenario. The organization’s prospects have drastically declined since trading up to select University of Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The squad finished the previous season with the poorest record in the NFL after dealing for Young. As part of the agreement from the previous season, Chicago received the first overall pick in this year’s draft. Carolina will do all in its power to seize any chance to improve this offence.
Dave Canales Canales was previously the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Bucs. On Monday night, news broke that offensive tackle Yosh Nijman had accepted terms to accompany Carolina on their arduous road back to redemption.
Nijman, a 2020 Virginia Tech graduate who went undrafted, has established himself as the Green Bay Packers’ go-to backup. Aside from his debut year, Nijman was able to take advantage of every opportunity and get on the pitch quickly as a backup. Nijman played 230 offensive snaps last season, primarily at left tackle, and was a To support anticipated starters Taylor Moton at right tackle and Ikem Ekwonu at left tackle, Nijman will likely come in as the swing tackle. While Ekwonu has been a bit of a letdown after being selected sixth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Moton has been an exception on the right side after he was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked Moton 23rd overall (74.6) for offensive tackles, while Ekwonu came in lower at 40th (67.4). That is significant because PFF often ranks left tackles higher due to their added value.
