Along with NFL free agency, the start of the league office’s formal trade announcements coincides with the new year. The deadline for signing restricted free agents to offer sheets is April 19. The cutoff date for teams to match restricted free agent offer sheets is April 24. The 2024 NFL Draft, which takes place from April 25–27, comes after the restricted free agent deadline.
In addition to several stars requesting contract extensions, Dallas has a long list of upcoming free agents whom they should think about re-signing. Tyron Smith, Tony Pollard, Stephon Gilmore, Tyler Biadasz, Jayron Kearse, Jourdan Lewis, Johnathan Hankins, Neville Gallimore, Dante Fowler Jr., Chuma Edoga, and Noah Igbinoghene are among the Cowboys’ free agents.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Monday, the offensive tackle Yosh Nijman and the Carolina Panthers have reached an agreement.
The agreement’s terms are still unknown.
The 28-year-old Nijman has played with the Green Bay Packers for his whole five-year career. Nijman, a Virginia Tech product who went undrafted, has started 22 of 67 games since 2020, including 13 in 2022, a career best. This past season, he only started one game and saw a decrease in playing time. Nijman participated in 108 special teams plays and 231 offensive snaps.
Nijman will fight for playing time on the revamped offensive line of Carolina. In free agency last week, the Panthers gave Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis large salaries.
The NFL 2024 calendar year begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. At that time, contracts running through 2023 officially run out, making those players free agents. Prior to the beginning of free agency, teams will have a chance to designate one franchise or transition tag player, starting on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. ET and ending on March 5. Beginning March 11 through March 13 teams can enter into a legal negotiation with players who are set to become unrestricted free agents.
