For the 2024 season, the Dallas Cowboys have decided what will happen to backup running back Rico Dowdle. According to his agent, Dowdle has signed a new contract that will keep him with the organisation. According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the contract is a one-year agreement worth $1.255 million, which includes a $200,000 signing bonus.

Originally a South Carolina native and undrafted free agent, Dowdle has spent four seasons in the league. His most productive year was 2023, when he made his debut as Tony Pollard’s supporting actor.

The former Gamecocks standout has 89 carries for 361 yards and two scores in 16 regular season games. He tallied 17 first downs to his total and

Cowboys officials have said publicly they want to extend Prescott’s contract but didn’t indicate a timetable for when that will occur.

“Dak has been willing to work with us and we’ve had great discussion about him and his contract,” team executive vice president Stephen Jones said last week. “He’s all-in on working with us and we’ve had personal discussions with Dak, as well. Other than that, that’s about all we’ll say about our negotiations with him. We want to keep those private. We don’t want to get into timelines or anything like that, certainly a priority of ours.”

Linebacker Micah Parsons and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb also are seeking new contracts. Lamb is entering the final year of his rookie deal.
